Project 13 is a Branding and Web Development agency based in Asheville, North Carolina. We work with nationally established clients located in New York, San Francisco and other major markets.

We create beautiful brands and highly functional, hard working websites using primarily WordPress, Shopify and SquareSpace. We foster long-term client relationships by providing ongoing design and technical support.

Who are we looking for

We are looking for a person with experience in self-hosted WordPress development to provide ongoing website maintenance for our custom WordPress themes. You will work closely with our Senior Web Developer and Technical Director and rarely have direct client contact.

Our office is located in the River Arts district of Asheville, NC. This is a hybrid role. The majority of your work can be done remotely but we are looking for someone who can commit to periodically working from the office. Our work environment is casual, respectful and fun.

The sites we built and maintain are mission critical to our clients. We do not cut corners. Each site is customized, scrutinized and fine tuned to our client’s needs. The service we provide is white glove and attention to detail and standards compliant coding is a must.

To start, this position is for 20 hours per month to be paid as a 1099 freelancer. If it’s a good fit, we are looking to grow this role into a full time position. Compensation is very competitive and we pay promptly.

The skills that will get you hired

  • Minimum 2 years experience of real-world WordPress(.org) development. You should consider yourself at least an intermediate WordPress developer (but rockstars preferred!).
  • Solid understanding of general front-end website development using PHP, CSS / SCSS, JavaScript & MySQL (familiarity with the and Sage starter theme a plus).
  • Experience with Node package manager, Advanced Custom Fields, Gravity Forms and the WordPress native block builder preferred.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail (this is huge for us!).
  • Being a self-starter with a strong ability to manage time on projects.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with the team and maintain a friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Experience with WCAG Website Accessibility guidelines and willingness to write clean, standards-compliant code.
  • Experience with Github repository and versioning.
  • Comfortable with command line and macOS.
  • Familiarity with Shopify and Squarespace is a plus.
  • Familiarity with WordPress API integrations is a plus.
